COVID-19 InfoCampus Security Authority (CSA) Reporting
The Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act, or "Clery Act", requires the “Campus Security Authority” (CSA) and anyone with significant responsibility for students, campus activities, staff, and faculty to report crime incidents. Some examples of Campus Security Authorities are: Individuals involved with student centers, extracurricular activities, and human resources; campus police; division deans; special services; directors; athletic coaches and athletic trainers. With the exception of campus police, a CSA is not required to investigate crimes, and is not responsible for determining whether or not a crime took place.
When reporting a crime, Campus Security Authorities should provide Campus Police with detailed information, including as much context as possible about what was disclosed. Important information to report includes:
- a description of the incident reported;
- the location of the incident;
- date and time the report was made and when the incident reportedly occurred;
- the name and contact information of the reporting party/victim (if they wish to be identified);
- the name of any suspects and witnesses;
- the name and contact information of the CSA; and
- any information regarding an immediate threat to the campus community or any campus community member.

PASTORAL AND PROFESSIONAL MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELORS
Campus “Pastoral Counselors” and Campus “Professional Counselors”, when acting as such, are not considered a campus security authority and are not required to report crimes for inclusion in the annual disclosure of crime statistics.
▪ Pastoral Counselor: An employee of an institution who is associated with a religious order or denomination, recognized by that religious order or denomination as someone who provides confidential counseling and who is functioning within the scope of that recognition as a pastoral counselor.
▪ Professional Counselor: An employee of an institution whose official responsibilities include providing psychological counseling to members of the institution’s community, and who is functioning within the scope of his or her certification.
