Canvas is currently experiencing a widespread security incident and have shutdown all services. Instructure (Canvas's parent company) is working on resolving the issue and ensuring new security measures are in place. We will update this page as we learn more details.

May 8, 2026:

UPDATE 4:00 pm

Canvas will continue to be out of service through the weekend. Based on ongoing guidance from the CCC Security Center, we are implementing the list of recommendations to further reduce the risks involved in opening up the system for use, to protect our students, staff, and faculty against further data breaches.

The next update will be Monday, May 11 at 10:00 am.

UPDATE 12 noon

We are continuing to work on restoring access to Canvas, following guidance from the CCC Security Center. While we cannot provide a specific time that access will be restored, we are working to secure our systems and connections as quickly as possible.

UPDATE 8:00 am

Canvas remains unavailable for now. While the company has brought the system back online, the Chancellor's Office and the California Community College Security Center is recommending campuses proceed with caution before opening up the system to students, given the company's previous assurances of security and the following data breach. To protect your data, we are working with the Security Center to perform due diligence before reconnecting PCC systems with Canvas.

May 7, 2026:

UPDATE 3:30 pm

Imposter websites and email phishing have popped up offering access to Canvas by inputting personal information such as Social Security Number and date of birth. Neither PCC nor Canvas requires this information. Please watch this page for current status. When the site has been restored, we will announce it here.

UPDATE 2:15 pm

PCC has received reports that the global Canvas system has been compromised. To ensure the safety of your accounts, we have taken Canvas offline for all PCC users.

Action Required: Do not attempt to log in to Canvas until further notice. If prompted, do not click on any links, download any content, or open any file.

The Risk: Logging in may expose your credentials to malicious actors who could attempt to access other PCC systems.

What We Are Doing: We have redirected the login page to a status site to keep the community informed.

Safety Note: Because PCC uses Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), you may be alerted if someone attempts to use your credentials. Always deny any MFA prompts you did not trigger yourself.

We are working with Canvas on a solution and will continue to provide updates.
