Special Education
The Special Education curriculum is designed to train and place you into a special education paraprofessional position in the public or private sector. Settings vary significantly in the age of student served (infants, toddlers, preschoolers, elementary age, secondary age, and adults) and types of disabilities served (deaf, blind or visually impaired, severely emotionally disturbed, mobility-impaired, communication disorders, etc.).
Program Options
The Special Education Certificates will train you for a culturally sensitive and family-focused perspective that emphasize the values of individual differences. Students must complete this curriculum with a 'C' or better grade; additional requirements include TB and fingerprint clearances.
- Special Education – Associate in Science Degree, Certificate of Achievement
- Special Education Assistant – Occupational Skills Certificate
Careers in Special Education
There is a high demand for Special Education Assistants in both public and private settings. These Certificates prepare you for employment as a paraprofessional, under the direction of certified and/or licensed professionals.
The certificates are often a beginning step for students transferring and pursuing careers as: Special Education Teaching Credentials, Occupational Therapist, Child Life Specialists, etc.
